If you run a Harbor Freight Predator generator on the homestead, at a job site, or parked next to the cabin, you already know the weak points. No oil filter on a lot of these engines. A factory dipstick that is plastic. Break-in metal that has nowhere to go except back through the oil.

What It Is

This is not a drain plug. It is the dipstick itself.

You pull the stock plastic stick, thread this one in, and you get three upgrades at once:

1. Stainless steel instead of plastic
2. A rare-earth magnet sitting in the oil
3. A real seal and a way to get it back out if somebody gorilla-tightens it

The magnet is rated to 302°F / 150°C, which is above normal generator oil temps. Votex says it will hold over 2.2 lbs. On oil-change day you wipe the tip and you will see whether the engine has been shedding metal.

That matters more on these machines than on a truck engine. A lot of Predator generators do not have an oil filter. The magnet is the filter.

Fitment — Read This Before You Order

Large version (this listing) fits: Predator 8750 / 9000 / 9500 / 13000 with 27 mm (1 1/16″) dipstick threads only.

It will NOT fit generators that use the smaller 19 mm dipstick thread. Predator has used both over the years. Measure the factory stick or compare it side by side before you click Buy Now.

How We Use It

Install it the first time you change oil — or before the first start if the generator is still dry.

1. Confirm thread size against the factory dipstick
2. Note the high / low marks on the new stick. They will not match the plastic one exactly
3. Thread it in by hand until the O-ring seats. Snug, not cranked
4. Run the generator, shut it down, wait a minute, check level on the Votex marks
5. At the next oil change, wipe the magnet and look. Fine fuzz during break-in is normal. Chunks are not

Keep the old plastic stick in the kit bag as a spare. You will not want it back in the engine, but it is a useful size reference.
