Hey, it’s Ryan

Hey folks, Ryan here from Backroad Reviews. This write-up is from our 2023 Predator 9500 Watt Super Quiet inverter generator — Harbor Freight SKU 71365, 49-state CO SECURE model. That is the closed-frame 459cc unit: 9500 starting watts, 7600 running watts, electric start, ESC mode, 67 dBA enclosure, and a runtime Harbor Freight lists up to 18.5 hours at 25% load.

Predator 9500 page at Harbor Freight: https://www.harborfreight.com/9500-watt-super-quiet-inverter-generator-with-co-secure-technology-49-state-compliant-71365.html

These machines live a hard homestead life. They sit, they get yanked to life in a storm, they run hot inside that quiet enclosure, and they chew through oil that picks up metal from the crankcase. The stock drain plug on the 9500 is a plain bolt. No magnet. Nothing grabbing the shavings that come off rings, journals, and the first hours of break-in.

We swapped that stock plug for an aftermarket magnetic drain plug — the blue anodized NICECNC M12 x 1.5 unit — and it is one of those cheap upgrades that actually changes how you maintain the Predator.

What’s Different From Stock

The stock plug is a simple threaded bolt with a 12 mm head and no magnet. The aftermarket plug is anodized aluminum, uses a 9/16 head so you have more wrench area, and has a magnet buried in the tip. That magnet is strong. Hold it near filings and it grabs.

It also ships with a robust O-ring and a crush washer. There is a safety-wire hole in the hex head. That is mostly a racing thing — tie the plug so it cannot back out — but if you have a requirement for safety wire, the hole is already there.

Fitment on this generator: the 2023 Predator 9500 (71365) oil drain is M12 x 1.5. That is the same thread a lot of Honda-pattern small engines and dirt-bike plugs use, which is why this NICECNC listing — marketed for XR/CR/CBR bikes — threaded straight into our crankcase. Confirm yours before you order. Do not force a plug that does not match.

NICECNC M12 1 Thumbnail

Why It Matters on a Generator

Metal in the oil is not a maybe — especially on a brand-new 459cc Predator. Break-in, dusty storage, a generator that gets worked hard during a multi-day outage — you will find glitter on the magnet at the first oil change. That glitter used to circulate through the 9500. Now it sticks to the plug instead of riding up into the upper cylinder.

The 9500 is a closed-frame inverter. It runs quieter than an open-frame unit, but that enclosure also means the engine lives in a hot box. A magnet that stays stuck in the plug at oil temperature matters. We have run this style of plug on multiple generators, including this 2023 9500. No leaks, no rounded heads, no magnet that fell into the pan.

Bonus move from the video: the 9500 has a separate fill / dipstick on top of the crankcase. If you add a magnetic fill plug or magnetic dipstick along with this drain plug, you put two magnets in the oil. That cuts the chance shavings ever make it upstairs.

20260902 170911

Install Notes

On the 9500 you work through the oil-fill access door on the right side of the enclosure. Harbor Freight’s procedure also has you pull the lower rubber seal, use the drain hose/cap to dump most of the oil, then pull the actual drain plug with a wrench. SAE 10W-30 is the general-use oil they spec.

1. Stop the engine. Let it cool enough to touch. Keep the generator level.

2. Open the oil-fill access door. Pull the lower seal. Drain through the hose first so you are not dumping a full crankcase on the plug.

3. Compare the new plug to the stock 9500 bolt. Ours was M12 x 1.5. Stock head is 12 mm; this aftermarket head is 9/16.

4. Seat the O-ring and crush washer. Snug the aluminum hex. Do not gorilla it.

5. Refill to the dipstick mark with 10W-30. Run it. Check for weep at the plug.

6. At the next oil change, wipe the magnet clean and look at what it caught. That pile of fuzz is the review. Keep spare crush washers in the 9500 tote.

Who This Is For

Anyone running a Predator 9500 (71365 / sister SKUs) as homestead backup, food-truck power, or job-site inverter power. Especially worthwhile during the first oil changes on a new 2023 unit, when break-in metal is highest. Same M12 x 1.5 plug also fits a lot of other Honda-pattern small engines if you confirm the thread.

The Honest Caveats

This is not Harbor Freight OEM, and it is not a stainless Votex USA-made Predator-specific plug. It is an anodized aluminum aftermarket M12 x 1.5 plug with a magnet, O-ring, crush ring, and a 9/16 head that happened to be the right thread for our 2023 9500. Confirm thread size. Do not overtighten aluminum threads in a hot crankcase. A magnet does not replace the 9500’s oil changes, low-oil shutdown, or filter. It just catches ferrous junk the filter may miss.

Bottom Line

If you want a longer life out of a 2023 Predator 9500 that already lives in a hot enclosure and gets asked to carry the homestead during outages, put a magnet in the crankcase. We have ordered this brand before and been happy with service life in tough conditions. On this machine, it was worth the upgrade.

Review: GiveBest Portable Electric Space Heater – Compact, Safe, and Efficient Heating for Your Space

Review: GiveBest Portable Electric Space Heater – Compact, Safe, and Efficient Heating for Your Space

Hey everyone, welcome back to Backroad Reviews! I’m Ryan, and today I’m diving into a handy little gadget that’s perfect for those chilly days ahead: the GiveBest Portable Electric Space Heater. This compact ceramic heater is designed for indoor use, whether you’re warming up your office desk, a small room, or just need spot heating without cranking up the whole house thermostat. With options for 750W or 1500W heat settings, plus a fan mode, it’s versatile and efficient for spaces up to 200 square feet.

Small Heater – YouTube

Unboxing and First Impressions

Right out of the box, the packaging screams quality. It’s sturdy and well-protected, which is always a good sign that the product inside is treated with care. I love the cute dog graphic on the front – it’s a fun touch that adds some personality. The box even includes contact info for the company, making it easy to reach out if needed. As someone who’s reviewed plenty of heaters, little details like this stand out and build trust.

The heater itself is super portable, with a convenient handle on top for easy carrying. It’s compact, so it won’t hog space under your desk or in a corner. This makes it an awesome gift idea for office workers or anyone who needs targeted warmth without a bulky unit.

Key Features and Performance

Let’s break down what makes this heater shine:

  • Heating Options: You’ve got two heat levels – 750W for gentler warming and 1500W for quicker heat-up. In my tests, both settings push out nice, even heat through the ceramic elements. At 1500W, it really cranks up the warmth without much wait time.
  • Fan Settings: There are three quiet fan speeds, including a fan-only mode that’s great for circulation without heat. I was impressed by how much air it moves – it’s powerful for such a small unit!
  • Thermostat Control: A simple mechanical thermostat lets you dial in your preferred temperature. Turn it up, and the heater kicks on immediately for instant comfort.
  • Build Quality: The power cord feels premium, with extra silicone for better durability and higher amperage handling. Higher-quality heaters like this one always have better cords, which is a subtle but important detail. The front has a metal protector plate to keep things safe, and the whole unit is easy to maintain – just six screws on the back for access if you need to clean out dust or lint.

In action, this thing is whisper-quiet, even on higher settings. I demoed it briefly (safely, of course – never plug heaters into extension cords for real use!), and it performed flawlessly. Heat comes out steadily, and the compact size means it’s ideal for desks, rooms, or even small apartments.

Safety First

Safety is non-negotiable with space heaters, and the GiveBest doesn’t disappoint:

  • Overheat Protection: It automatically shuts off if it gets too hot.
  • Tip-Over Switch: There’s a button on the bottom that cuts power if the heater tilts or falls over. I tested this in fan mode, and it worked like a charm.
  • Additional Tips: Always keep it uncovered, with nothing in front or behind. Blow out any debris before use, especially if it’s been stored away. Heaters can be fire hazards, so stay vigilant – clean them seasonally and follow local safety codes.

The “Don’t Cover” warning is right there on the unit, and the design even allows for easy cleaning of the fan blade if you’re handy.

Why I Recommend It

For the price, this heater punches above its weight. It’s affordable, efficient, and packs a lot of heat into a small package. If you’re looking for something to combat winter chills without breaking the bank, grab the GiveBest Portable Electric Space Heater on Amazon today. It’s perfect for office setups, dorms, or home use.

GiveBest PWM320EW Wall Heater Review: Smart, Quiet, and Ready for Winter

Amazon Affiliate Link https://amzn.to/43bPc8l GiveBest Wall Heater for Bathroom, 1500W Fast Heating Electric Space Heater with ALCI Plug, Adjustable Thermostat, 3 Heating Modes, 24H Timer, Easy Mounted Heater for Indoor Use, Home, Office, White

Hey folks, Ryan here from Backroad Reviews. As the chill starts creeping in (it’s October 13, 2025, and fall is definitely upon us), we’ve been testing out some solid heating solutions to keep our off-grid adventures cozy. Today, we’re diving into the GiveBest PWM320EW 1500W Wall Heater—a sleek, smart unit that’s perfect for bathrooms, bedrooms, or any spot where you want efficient, no-fuss warmth. We put it through its paces in our latest video (check it out below), and spoiler: we’re impressed. If you’re scouting for a wall-mounted heater that punches above its weight, this one’s a winner.

Unboxing: Packaged Like a Pro

Right out of the gate, the GiveBest PWM320EW arrives in a shipping box that’s taped up tight and clearly labeled—no mystery packages here. Inside, everything’s nested in protective foam and cardboard, keeping the unit and accessories pristine. You get:

  • Mounting brackets and hardware for easy wall install
  • A GFCI-protected plug for added safety
  • Basic quick-start guide plus a detailed instruction manual (in English)
  • A one-year limited warranty card
  • A thoughtful “thank you” note from the team
  • Even a built-in bubble level on the mounting template—genius touch we haven’t seen on many heaters

The whole package screams quality and user-friendliness. No hunting for lost screws or deciphering cryptic diagrams. As we noted in the video, it’s lightweight and straightforward, making setup a breeze even if you’re not a DIY pro.

Setup and Installation: Simple and Secure

Mounting this bad boy? Piece of cake. The instructions walk you through drilling pilot holes, using drywall anchors if needed, and leveling it perfectly with that handy built-in level. It’s designed for easy on/off from the wall, so maintenance is simple—just pop it off, dust the fan, and you’re good. A quick heads-up from our test: Follow local codes and avoid uninsulated exterior walls, direct sunlight, or drafty spots near windows. That ensures the thermostat reads accurately and keeps things efficient.

Pro tip: Plug it straight into a wall outlet—no extension cords, folks. With three power settings (full 1500W blast or lower for milder days), it’s versatile without overloading your circuit.

Features That Make It Shine

What really sets the PWM320EW apart is its smart tech without the hassle. Flip the back switch, and you’re greeted by a responsive touchscreen. Here’s the rundown from our hands-on:

  • Heating Modes: Three levels for customized warmth—crank it for quick heat or dial it down to sip energy.
  • Thermostat Control: Set your ideal temp, and it cycles on/off automatically. Perfect for stable room temps.
  • Fan-Only Mode: Great for air circulation on milder days.
  • Timer and Countdown: Schedule shut-off or let the heating element cool safely before powering down.
  • Smart Connectivity: Wi-Fi enabled via the free Smart Life app (scan the QR code on the unit or back panel). Control it from your phone, set schedules, or even integrate with voice assistants. Bluetooth toggle for quick pairing.
  • Remote Control: Included (just add AAA batteries), for couch-side adjustments.
  • Quiet Operation: Under 45dB—whisper-quiet, even on high. We barely noticed the fan humming in our test space.
  • Safety First: ETL-listed, overheat protection, and that GFCI plug. The dust cap on the switch adds extra peace of mind.

In the video, we fired it up and felt instant heat—PTC tech warms the room fast without the dry air blast of older models. Audio alerts are customizable (on/off), and everything feels premium for the price.

Performance in Action: Cozy Without the Noise

We tested this in a small office setup, and it heated our 150-200 sq ft space in minutes. The thermostat held steady, and the fan distributed air evenly without hot spots. Come winter, we’ll mount it permanently in the workshop—those power options mean we can run it low for all-day comfort or high for a quick thaw. It’s lightweight (under 5 lbs), so relocating isn’t a chore if needed.

One minor note: Batteries for the remote aren’t included, but that’s an easy fix. Overall, it’s a set-it-and-forget-it heater that fits our backroad lifestyle perfectly.

What Other Reviewers Are Saying

GiveBest has a stellar rep for wall heaters, and early buzz on the PWM320EW aligns with their track record. Similar models rack up 4.3 out of 5 stars from over 1,200 Amazon reviewers, with folks raving about the fast PTC heating and app ease. One user called it a “winter lifesaver” for toasty fingers without the chill. Another highlighted the quiet operation and safety shut-offs: “Impressive heat output… Quiet operation ensures minimal distraction.” On the smart side, reviewers love the multi-control options—WiFi, remote, touchscreen, even Alexa integration—for “efficiency and easy installation.” A YouTube tester echoed our take: “That heat starts kicking… Pretty sweet. Mechanic In A Bottle – https://amzn.to/4mNVd2B

Hey folks, welcome back to Backroad Reviews! If you’re like us—spending your weekends tearing up trails on ATVs, hauling gear in your Jeep, or maintaining farm equipment—you know how quickly dirt, mud, and grease can build up. That’s why we’re excited to dive into our review of the SIMPSON Powershot 3500 PSI 2.5 GPM Cold Water Gas Pressure Washer. This beast has become our go-to for keeping everything spotless, and after putting it through its paces, we’re hooked. We even shot a detailed unboxing and setup video (check it out below or on our channel), where we walked through the whole process from box to blast.

Unboxing and Setup: Built Like a Tank

Right out of the gate, this Simpson unit screams quality. As we noted in our video, Simpson is a staple in the power washing world, with parts readily available worldwide, a solid warranty, and easy-to-reach customer service—huge wins compared to some off-brand washers we’ve dealt with over the years. Assembled in the USA with a premium engine, it’s clear this isn’t your average homeowner model.

Unpacking was straightforward. The frame is powder-coated for durability, with hard industrial rubber stoppers on the bottom and pneumatic tires that we pumped up a bit for better maneuverability. We loved the rubber nozzle holders (not those flimsy plastic clips that snap in cold weather), and the high-quality kink-resistant hose rated for up to 3,700 PSI. The wand is brightly colored with a safety guard, and everything from the double O-rings to the large soap pickup line (perfect for a 5-gallon bucket) feels pro-grade.

One pleasant surprise? It came with AMSOIL synthetic oil, which we weren’t expecting but greatly appreciated. As fans of American-made products (shoutout to Superior, Wisconsin!), we run AMSOIL in all our high-performance engines anyway—it’s top-tier for longevity and doesn’t play nice if you switch brands mid-stream. We topped it off, added some fuel stabilizer like Mechanic in a Bottle to keep things gum-free, and followed the video’s tips: lightly pull the cord to circulate oil before the first start, purge air from the system to avoid vapor lock, and give it a gentle break-in period. Fired right up on the first pull—no choke needed!

Power and Performance: Cleaning Everything from Mud to Machinery

With 3500 PSI and 2.5 GPM, this cold-water gas washer delivers serious punch without overwhelming you. In our video, we highlighted how it’s carbureted (not fuel-injected) for easy maintenance, with an easy-to-access air filter that’s lightly pre-oiled and replaceable numbers right at your fingertips. It handles up to 10% ethanol fuel, but we stick to non-ethanol with stabilizers for longevity—pro tip from years of small-engine headaches.

We’ve used this bad boy extensively on our backroad fleet, and it’s been a game-changer. It blasted caked-on trail mud off our motorcycles in minutes, stripped road salt from the car without a hitch, and powered through grease on the Jeep’s undercarriage. Our ATVs and UTVs came out looking showroom-new after off-road adventures, and it even handled the tractor and its implements like a champ—think plows and mowers coated in field grime. The five included spray tips give versatility for everything from gentle rinses to high-pressure stripping, and the quick-connect system makes swapping them effortless. No leaks, no fuss, and it runs cool even after hours of use. If you’re prepping for a big job, like washing a concrete driveway, this unit’s flow and reliability shine.

What Others Are Saying: Online Reviews Roundup

We’re not alone in our praise—online feedback echoes our experience, with an average rating around 4.5 out of 5 stars across sites. Users rave about the impressive power and cleaning speed, noting how it tackles tough jobs like driveways and home exteriors with ease. Many highlight the easy assembly and startup, especially with the reliable engine (variants include Honda GX200 or Simpson CRX210, both praised for performance). Pros often include the professional-grade build, PowerBoost technology for extra nozzle pressure, and value for the buck—great for contractors or heavy DIYers. Folks appreciate the pneumatic tires for mobility and the overall durability, calling it “the best power washer one can get” with “plenty of power.”

On the flip side, some users mention minor gripes. A few noted missing parts lists or user manuals in the box, making initial setup a tad frustrating if you’re not video-savvy. Others wished for a longer wand to reduce bending, and accessories like pump guards can feel pricey. Rarely, brand-new units had small issues like needing adjustments, but these seem isolated, with most reviews emphasizing long-term reliability over cheaper alternatives. Overall, the positives far outweigh the cons, especially for those who value American engineering and pro-level performance.

Final Thoughts: A Must-Have for Backroad Warriors

If you’re in the market for a pressure washer that can handle the rigors of rural life—from vehicle maintenance to property upkeep—the SIMPSON Powershot 3500 PSI is a winner. It’s powerful, user-friendly, and built to last, making quick work of our motorcycles, car, Jeep, ATVs, UTVs, tractor, and implements. Pair it with good fuel practices (like we did in the video), and it’ll serve you for years. We give it a solid 5 stars—grab one from Lowe’s and thank us later!

Milwaukee 2744-20 M18 FUEL Framing Nailer: 8 Reasons It’s the Best Choice in 2025

Milwaukee 2744-20 M18 FUEL Framing Nailer: 8 Reasons It’s the Best Choice in 2025

Milwaukee M18 FUEL 21-Degree Framing Nailer Review – A Game-Changer for DIY Projects

We’re going to break down the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 21-Degree Framing Nailer Kit, model 2744-20, which you can find right here on Amazon https://amzn.to/4dxRzVk combo pack or just the nailer https://amzn.to/4emHCLV. Now, this baby is an absolute powerhouse for framing projects on the homestead and around the house. First off, let me say, using a framing nailer without the hassle of cords and gas canisters is a dream come true! And with this Milwaukee model, I had a blast testing it out with some home improvement projects.

For this review, I’ve also included a general overview video where you can watch me and my trusty assistant (or victim of peer pressure) give it a go firsthand. From assembling the nails to firing away, we had a lot of fun getting things done.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Right out of the box, the Milwaukee 2744-20 M18 FUEL Framing Nailer comes packed with the usual high-quality gear you’d expect from Milwaukee. The heavy-duty bag they give you is no joke; you could probably carry around a small dog in there if needed (not recommended, but hey, possibilities are endless!). But just a heads-up, if you’re buying this nailer as a stand-alone tool, it doesn’t come with the battery unless you get the full kit. If you’re already in the M18 family, this is no big deal because those batteries work across their tool range.

It comes with a standard magazine, and you can buy the extended one separately if you don’t want to keep refilling. But even the standard size is solid for most jobs.

Performance and Features

One of the standout features of the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Framing Nailer is the brushless motor. It’s smooth, powerful, and provides great efficiency when you’re working all day. With no gas canisters and no air hoses to trip over, it’s super easy to set up and get to work quickly. Plus, less noise—so your neighbors won’t hate you after those weekend projects!

The tool-free depth adjustment is awesome. You can make adjustments quickly without having to break out any other tools, making it perfect for on-the-fly tweaks as you go. The no-mar tip is great for those delicate pieces where you don’t want to leave marks, which means you can use it on finer projects like installing trim or baseboards without worrying about damage.

It has two firing modes, sequential and bump-fire. The sequential mode is pretty standard—just press the nose to the surface, pull the trigger, and boom, one nail is in. The bump-fire mode? Oh man, this is where it gets fun! You can crank out three nails per second just by holding down the trigger and bumping the tool against your work surface. It’s fast, efficient, and perfect for when you’re doing big framing jobs like roofing or decking. In the video, we put it to the test, and let me tell you, it’s almost too easy.

Battery Life

With the 5.0Ah battery pack, this framing nailer can fire up to 750 nails per charge. That’s a lot of nailing before you even need to think about swapping batteries. The battery life on this thing is fantastic for those larger jobs. No need to be constantly running back and forth to recharge or swap batteries.

And since this tool runs on the Milwaukee M18 platform, if you’ve got other M18 tools (like I do), the batteries are all interchangeable, which is a huge bonus for any homesteader or DIY enthusiast. Just slap in a fresh battery, and you’re good to go again.

Handling and Usability

Weighing in at around 9.6 pounds, this nailer is in the middleweight category, but it feels balanced in hand. Even if you’re working on framing an entire room or putting together a new chicken coop, it’s light enough to use for extended periods without feeling like you’re dragging around a ton of bricks.

The onboard belt hook and rafter hook are lifesavers, especially if you’re working on a ladder or scaffold. You can hook it right onto your toolbelt or hang it up on a rafter if you need to free your hands. This came in handy during our review project, and in the video, you’ll see me putting that hook to good use.

Safety First

As always, safety is key. One of the things I love about the Milwaukee 2744-20 M18 FUEL Framing Nailer is the dry fire lockout, which keeps the tool from firing if you’re out of nails. This feature saves you from unnecessary wear and tear on the nailer itself, and, of course, saves you from firing blanks. And, just like I always tell folks—never leave a battery in a tool if you’re walking away from it. The easy battery removal feature on this tool lets you take the power out of it quickly to avoid any accidental firings.

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?

In short—heck yes! The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 21-Degree Framing Nailer is hands down one of the best tools you can get for framing without the fuss of gas or cords. It’s reliable, powerful, and built to handle pretty much any job you throw at it, whether you’re working on a full home renovation or tackling smaller projects on the homestead.

A few customers out there have mentioned that it’s heavier than a pneumatic nailer, but honestly, the freedom of no hoses or compressors more than makes up for the extra weight. Plus, Milwaukee’s build quality and their fantastic customer support make this a no-brainer. I’d highly recommend it if you’re in the market for a top-tier cordless nailer.

If you want to see it in action, be sure to check out the video I put together for Backroad Reviews, where I walk you through the unboxing and put this nailer to the test. Spoiler alert: it does not disappoint!
